About me
Greetings and thank you for your interest!
I’m David, the digital artist behind all the artwork showcased on this site. My journey with art began years ago with a passion for drawing and painting. However, life took over, and my career led me away from my artistic pursuits. The onset of the Covid pandemic, coupled with a sudden career change, also known as redundancy, provided an unexpected opportunity for introspection and a return to my artistic roots.
As a digital artist, my canvas is the screen of an iPad or a personal computer, and my tools are digital brushes and colours. The marvels of modern technology allow me to emulate the behaviour of traditional watercolour paints, complete with bleeding and intermingling effects, all on a digital canvas. The digital medium offers unique advantages - the “paints” never dry out, allowing me to return to a piece even months later, and the colours remain as vibrant as ever.
The digital medium also allows for techniques impossible with traditional watercolours. For instance, I can overpaint any section with any colour, even painting a light colour over a dark one. And if something doesn’t turn out as expected, I can simply “undo” it. However, I’ve learned to appreciate the beauty of imperfections and the unexpected outcomes they can lead to. Sometimes, these “accidents” or “mistakes” can result in a more aesthetically pleasing piece than a perfectly executed drawing. After all, art, in my view, should retain an element of the organic and unplanned.
Thank you for taking the time to learn about my journey and my process. Enjoy exploring the site!
